Capital One customers swarmed social media Thursday with complaints about missing direct deposits.
"We are currently experiencing technical issues. We are working to fix the problem as quickly as possible," Capital One said in a message on its website.
Outage monitoring site Downdetector showed over 2,000 problem reports shortly after 9 a.m. Eastern standard time, with 78% concerning deposits, 15% account balances and 7% online login.
"Didn't get paid, bills are waiting," one Downdetector user posted.
Another posted: "Praying everyone starts getting their deposits soon idk about you guys but it’s check to check over here with an empty fridge & 4 diapers left I have two toddlers to feed and idk what to tell them."
Among the many X users who had "Capital One" trending on the site, one asked, "@AskCapitalOne
So when is the direct deposit issue that the majority of your customers are experiencing going to be resolved?"
The customer service account responded, "Hey! We know it’s important to have your money when you need it, so we apologize for any inconvenience this is causing, and we appreciate your patience while we work to get this resolved."
Around noon, the account posted: "We are experiencing a technical issue with a third-party vendor that is temporarily impacting some account services, deposits, and payment processing for portions of our consumer, small business, and commercial bank."
It added in another post: "We are actively working with the vendor to resolve the issue and restore services, and apologize for the inconvenience."
Earlier this week, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau sued Capital One, alleging the bank cheated millions of consumers out of more than $2 billion in interest by freezing the rate on its flagship savings account at a low level while rates rose nationally ,and created a virtually identical product that paid substantially more in interest.
Capital One has said it will defend itself in court, Bloomberg reported.
