The American Medical Association (AMA) has adopted a policy opposing moves by cash-strapped cities to impose a tax on medical school tuition.

Members of the AMA, Chicago, voted on the proposal Tuesday during a policy making meeting in San Diego.

Imposing taxes on medical school tuition would increase student physicians' debt and contribute to a growing shortage of physicians, the AMA says.
