A large benefits provider says it will be making beneficiary and executor legal support services a standard group life feature.
Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, a unit of MetLife Inc., New York, will be including estate resolution services from a sister company, Hyatt Legal Plans, Cleveland, with supplemental term life, group universal life and group variable universal life coverage in states that have approved the feature.
The MetLife Estate Resolution Services feature will provide legal representation; preparation of the documents needed to transfer probate assets from the insured's estate to the heirs; representation at court proceedings; completion of the correspondence necessary to transfer non-probate assets, such as real estate and proceeds from insurance policies; and associated tax filings.
"Attorney services will be provided at no cost to the executor or administrator," MetLife says.
Where available, the estate resolution services feature will be effective for new and renewing business in 2009 for employers with 500 or more eligible employees.
