If you are serious about in-person social networking, becoming the person everyone wants to know at the country club is a great objective.
Exclusive clubs often have plenty of hoops to jump through before you are admitted. You probably need to be nominated, seconded, have letters of reference from other club members and pass an interview.
Country club membership can be expensive. In addition to initiation fees, you also have a monthly (or quarterly) minimum spend. There might be assessments for capital improvements. Paying these costs allows you to play golf and use the restaurant facilities, also at additional costs. They don't make this easy: At our local club, you have a quarterly minimum spend at the restaurant, yet the liquor and tipping component do not count towards that quota.
But the time, effort and expense can all be worth it.
These barriers create exclusivity. They will keep many other financial advisors out. Bring it on, you say! While getting involved in a leadership role is going to cost you in terms of time and money, you will make great connections along the way.
