Josh Brown started his blog, "The Reformed Broker," in November 2008. That’s when, he says, he “was working at a dead-end brokerage firm job [with] absolutely no career prospects whatsoever — a washed-up stock broker at 31 years old in the middle of a global financial crisis.”
But his blog took off during the financial crisis, along with his career. He met Barry Ritholtz in 2010, and they founded Ritholtz Wealth Management in New York with two partners in 2013. Brown since has written and edited four books, the latest being “You Weren't Supposed to See That: Secrets Every Investor Should Know,” and is also a regular CNBC contributor.
Ritholtz Wealth now works with about $5 billion in assets and recently opened a new office for its Chicago staff. As part of the opening, the RIA taped an episode of its popular “The Compound and Friends” podcast at the new location.
Ritholtz Wealth’s online content had 16 million views and downloads in 2024: 8 million for video and 8 million for podcasts. For the first five months of 2025, it had close to 8 million views and downloads. The firm also works with the Future Proof event company, formerly known as Advisor Circle, to stage the Future Proof series of wealth-themed events.
Earlier this month, Brown took the stage in Nashville, Tennessee, at the 2025 Jolt marketing conference, organized by Snappy Kraken and CJN Communications. He spoke with Robert Sofia, Snappy Kraken's CEO, about his media blueprint for growth and influence.
