The Senate Finance Committee voted 14-13 late Wednesday to advance the nomination of Frank Bisignano to be the commissioner of Social Security.
Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said Tuesday that Bisignano "lied multiple times to every member of this Committee, including the Chairman and his staff, about his actions and communications with DOGE and the Social Security Administration prior to his hearing."
Wyden said that his office "received an account from a whistleblower about the ways the nominee was deeply involved in and aware of DOGE’s activities at the agency."
Bisignano is the chief executive officer of fintech and payments company Fiserv Inc.
Nancy Altman, president of Social Security Works, added in a statement Wednesday that “today’s vote, entirely along party lines, shows that Senate Republicans are full partners in Elon Musk’s war on Social Security. They lack the courage of their convictions, however, voting off camera behind closed doors instead of in the sunshine for their constituents to see."
Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency "has spent the last six weeks taking a chainsaw to Social Security’s service to the American people," Altman said. "Musk’s operatives have pushed out over 3,000 Social Security workers, including those with the most experience and knowledge. And Musk has plans to fire thousands more."
The full Senate "should join every Democrat on the Finance Committee in rejecting Bisignano’s nomination,” Altman said.
