Wellington Management has hired Christina Kopec Rooney, a longtime Goldman Sachs Asset Management leader, to a new firm position, head of U.S. wealth.

Rooney brings over 25 years of experience in asset management, strategy and execution to the New York-based role, where she will lead Wellington's efforts to enhance its offerings for the wealth channel and drive growth in the U.S. market. She came from Goldman Sachs, where she was managing director and head of commercial and digital strategy for global third-party wealth.

She held various leadership roles at Goldman Sachs from 2011 to 2024. Previously, Rooney filled senior positions with Fidelity Investments in fixed income product management and equity product research and development, the independent investment manager noted.

"We are thrilled to welcome Christina to Wellington," said Scott Geary, vice chair and the firm's global wealth head. "Her extensive experience and proven track record in the asset management industry make her well-suited to drive our U.S. wealth strategy forward. We are confident that Christina's leadership will help us deliver value to our clients and further grow our presence in the U.S. wealth market."

The appointment is part of Wellington's broader strategy to expand its capabilities in the wealth channel, where the firm subadvises and manages over $600 billion in U.S. wealth assets across mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, variable insurance trusts, separately managed accounts and alternative asset vehicles.

Rooney will work with the firm's leadership team to develop and execute strategies that enhance client engagement, drive growth and strengthen Wellington's position in U.S. wealth, according to the firm.

"I look forward to working with the talented team at Wellington as it expands its presence in U.S. wealth and broadens the availability of its investment solutions," she said. "Wellington's commitment to investment excellence and its strong client focus closely aligns with my own values and vision.”

Wellington Management advises over 2,500 clients in more than 60 countries, managing over $1.2 trillion for pensions, endowments and foundations, insurers, family offices, fund sponsors, global wealth managers and other clients.
