Capital One customers continued to report missing direct deposits Friday, marking a third day of technical troubles for the bank.
Outage monitoring site Downdetector registered roughly 4,000 problem reports after 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Friday, with over 90% involving direct deposits. The numbers had slid to about 3,300 by 10:15.
In an email to customers Thursday night, Capital One said a system issue was affecting deposits, payments and transfers.
"Starting Jan. 15, 2025, Capital One began experiencing a disruption impacting the processing of some deposits, payments and transfers, which is due to a technical issue with one of our service providers," the company wrote, saying the issue had delayed processing some transactions, including direct deposits, Early Pay credit for direct deposits, and electronic payments and transfers.
"We’re working closely with our provider to resolve this issue and restore processing as quickly as possible. We expect services to gradually begin to return to normal throughout today and the majority of issues to be resolved by Friday morning," the company said, adding it would process all delayed transactions once the systems are restored.
Around 10:15 a.m. EST, some customers from Texas posting on Downdetector reported they'd just received their direct deposits. Other customers posted complaints, some bitter.
One posted: "I’m in NYC ... it’s day 3 no deposits. I already updated my DD to another bank. When I get my $ from C1 I’m closing all my accounts."
"Another said he learned of the issue Thursday when his direct deposit didn't post, too late to change auto payments scheduled for Friday. "No deposit yet but they have no problem processing payments and nuking my account into the negatives. Oh and I too got the reminder that my CC payment is due soon. Man they have brass ones. No fear at all."
A Capital One media representative didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment Friday.
