Consumers had trouble using Citi's mobile app and cards Wednesday, according to social media reports.

Outage monitoring site Downdetector showed over 1,200 problem reports for Citi at the peak in the early afternoon, the vast majority related to the mobile app.

On X, formerly Twitter, one user reported being unable to buy gas or withdraw cash with their card. Another posted: "Hmm. @Citi app down and card not processing charges."

Some mobile app users posted screenshots purporting to show error messages. Several customers reported that they'd received fraud alerts from Citi but faced long wait times when calling the credit card business for help.

The bank's customer service account on X, @askciti, replied around 2:20 p.m. to several user complaints, saying the company was aware of the problems and working to address them. It pointed users with mobile app issues to the bank's desktop site.

Citi said in an statement emailed to ThinkAdvisor: “We are experiencing some technical issues with Citi's mobile app experience, which we are working quickly to resolve." It also noted that customers needing service can log in to the company's website or call the number on back of their cards or monthly statements.
