Dodge & Cox CEO and Chair Dana Emery will retire at year-end, capping a nearly 42-year career with the investment management firm, to be succeeded by David Hoeft as chair and Roger Kuo as CEO.

Hoeft will continue as chief investment officer and Kuo as firm president, Dodge & Cox announced Thursday.

Kuo also will succeed Emery as chair of the Dodge & Cox Funds.

"Under her leadership, the firm has globalized our research, investment strategies and our client service capabilities. Dana will continue to serve in her firm leadership and Investment Committee roles and as Chair of the Dodge & Cox Funds Board until her retirement, and she will gradually transition her responsibilities over the course of the year," the firm said.

Emery joined Dodge & Cox in 1983, the year she graduated from Stanford University, according to the firm website. The firm announced the changes along with several updates to its investment committees.

Hoeft and Kuo, who joined the firm in 1993 and 1998, respectively, will represent Dodge & Cox's sixth generation of leadership since 1930.
