A life insurance agency that's working to position itself as a force for good has hired a new top executive.

Bluestone Life Insurance Company has named Carey Earle to be its president.

Nathan Irons, the Burlington, Vermont-based company's founder, had been both the company's president and its chief executive officer. He continues to be the CEO but has given up the title of president.

Earle previously was assistant vice president for branding at National Life Group.

Earle has a bachelor's degree from American University.

Before she moved to National Life, she ran a marketing and branding firm in New York.

Bluestone Life is a life insurance agency that distributes life insurance and other products from Assurity Life.

The company is operating as a "Certified B Corp."

A Certified B Corp. is a company that has gone through a review by B Lab. B Lab is a nonprofit organization that tries to verify whether a company is trying to make the world a better place, as well as trying to make money.

Bluestone Life says it promotes social and environmental progress by spending 1% of clients' premiums "for the planet."

The company says the "1% for the planet" approach has led to the company contributing $500,000 to high-impact nonprofit organizations.
