One thing the new New York paid family leave law is doing is giving fathers a chance to take leave to bond with newborn babies and newly adopted children.
ShelterPoint Life Insurance Company — a Garden City, New York-based insurer that's been active in helping employers comply with the Empire State's new paid leave mandate — recently released a little data on bonding leave claims from men.
The firm reported that, as of May:
- 27% of its bonding leave claims were for men.
- 29% of the men involved filed claims for two to three weeks of leave.
- 17% of the men filed claims for six to eight weeks of leave.
- 40% filed claims for short periods of leave, or intermittent days of leave.
