Deep-frying turkeys has become as American as Thanksgiving. Among the millions who have made it a holiday tradition, however, there are a few who end up with more than a cooked bird. For the past seven years, Texas has had the most — 38, according to State Farm — grease- and cooking-related insurance claims on Thanksgiving; Illinois (27), Pennsylvania (23), Ohio (23) and New York (22) round out the top five. Fire departments annually respond to more than 1,000 fryer-related fires that cause more than $15 million in property damage.
