Scientists have developed a new way to measure pain through a technique known as functional magnetic imaging resonance. The findings to be published in the New England Journal of Medicine will have wide ranging implications. The subjective task of explaining internal pain to someone else may now have some concrete measuring blocks aside from the vague pain scale of 1 – 10. However, some worry about how the technique will be used. Will insurance companies stop paying for some pain drugs absence a high level of pain?
