In an article that has already touched off a spirited discussion at the Wall Street Journal, Peggy Drexler examines the "queen bee" phenomenon, in which women who succeed in the workplace, especially in male-dominated environments , take an active role in making sure other females they work with do not succeed. The theory is that those women who do make it to the top become obsessed with maintaining their authority. But does this really happen? Or is this just anecdotal evidence hammered into the shape of a convenient theory to explain workplace prejudices?
