George Washington Bridge saw record 18 suicides in 2012

With 43 attempts and 18 successful suicides, 2012 was a year of troubling action on the bridge. There were four times as many deaths as in 2011 and five more than the previous worst year on record. The bridge, which sits 200 feet above the Hudson River and connects northern Manhattan with New Jersey was made famous by the suicide of college student, Tyler Clementi in September of 2010.
