The number of ETFs and indexing product assets under management will reach $10.4 trillion by 2017, up over 100% since 2011, according to a new report.
Tiburon Strategic Advisors LLC, Tiburon, Calif., published this finding in a new report, "ETFs and Indexing: Exchange Traded Funds, Index Mutual Funds & Indexed Separate Accounts." The research provides an overview and market forecast of exchange-traded funds, index mutual funds and indexed separate accounts.
Among the report's key findings:
- ETFs and indexing products' net flows will reach $665 billion by 2017, up almost 100% since in 2011.
- Index mutual fund net flows will continue to increase to $120 billion by 2017.
- Indexed separate account assets will reach $7.4 trillion by 2017.
- Indexed separate account flows will slightly increase to over $245 billion by 2017.
- Personalized indexing in ETFs and indexing products will grow to $33 billion by 2017.
- Custom ETF assets are expected to reach $9 billion in 2017.
- Enhanced ETFs will grow to $16 billion by 2017.
- Inverse ETF assets are expected to grow to $7 billion by 2017.
- The number of firms offering exchange traded funds will double to 26 by 2017.
- The number of exchange traded funds will more than double to 2,500 by 2017.
- Exchange traded funds' assets under management will grow to $3.0 trillion by 2017, up almost 200% since 2011.
- Exchange traded fund net flows will surge to $300 billion by 2017.
- Equity ETFs have $30 billion net flows.
- Black Rock, State Street Global Advisors, and The Vanguard Group dominate U.S. equity ETF and indexing product assets under management, with $300-$600 billion each.
- Sector stock ETFs have $28 billion net flows.
- There 51 global and international exchange traded funds, up from 22 in 2001.
- Global and international exchange traded funds have $37 billion assets under management.
- Global and International exchange traded funds have $32 billion net flows
- Emerging market exchange traded funds have $24 billion assets under management, up almost 100% since 2003.
- There are just six fixed income exchange traded funds.
- There is $14 billion in fixed income exchange traded funds today, up from just over $10 billion in the previous year.
- Fixed income exchange traded funds have $48 billion net flows.
- International fixed income exchange traded funds have $9.0 billion assets under management.
- ETFs and indexing product assets under management as a share of total world equity market capitalization will increase to 25% by 2017, up from 7% in 2011.
