It's tough to start a business and even tougher to keep one going. Perhaps toughest of all? Turning a failing business around. Here are seven companies that came mighty close to declaring bankruptcy but, in the end, were able to turn themselves around. Some, like Apple, made leadership changes, re-focused and pulled themselves back up. Others, like AIG and GM, needed some government assistance to get going again.
