The life and health industry is one driven more by numbers than anything else. Data, results, rankings, statistics…they all create the bedrock of information that drives how life and health insurance business is conducted. One could swim forever in the sea of information that is the life and health industry and never get through the bulk of it. But some information stands out as benchmarks by which to measure the rest, points of context that help us get a larger understanding of where the entire industry is at the moment. With that in mind, National Underwriter Life & Health is proud to present its 2012 Top 100 – a series of 10 charts ranking the 100 highest-raking companies in a broad series of categories meant to offer the most basic financial snapshot of life and health insurers today.

These charts were made possible by our friends at SNL Financial, whose databases were the source of all of this information. SNL delivers financial information on the insurance carrier community for use in areas such as financial benchmarking, competitive analysis, market entry/exit decision-making, industry aggregates and industry market share analysis. This information is derived from the NAIC filings database, as well as publicly available financial statements provided by the companies themselves.

Digital versions of the following charts can be found online at LifeHealthPro.com. Further data can be obtained directly from SNL Financial at snlfinancial.com.
