William M. McKnight Jr., the founder of McKnight's Long-Term Care News, died Feb. 8, according to McKnight's.
McKnight, who was 83, grew up in the Chicago area. He earned a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and went on to become a salesman for a hospital supply company.
He set up a health care industry publishing company in 1969.
After starting publications that covered sectors such as medical products sales and health care purchasing, he launched McKnight's Long-Term Care News in 1981, under the name Today's Nursing Home.
McKnight's Long-Term Care News now covers nursing homes, assisted living companies, home care companies and other long-term care (LTC) providers.
McKnight sold the company in 1986.
A memorial service will be held at April 27 in Northfield, Ill.
