At home this week, many advisors and their partners will be in Phoenix and San Diego for the FSI and TD Ameritrade conferences, while the markets are likely to be moved by the continuing troubles in Egypt and reports on retail and auto sales and the unemployment numbers at the end of the week. While the House is not in session, the Senate is, and multiple committee hearings of interest to advisors and their clients will be held. Multiple earnings reports are due as the earnings season winds down.

On Monday, Jan. 31, the Chicago PMI numbers are released, as is personal income and spending for the month of December. The Financial Services Institute kicks off its annual OneVoice 2011 Broker-Dealer conference with a speech by Rick Ketchum of FINRA (look for John Sullivan's on-site reporting from Phoenix). The Senate convenes, while the House is out of session until Feb. 7.

On Tuesday, Feb. 1, there are assessments of retail and auto sales and a full day of FSI events in Phoenix. The Senate Budget Committee holds hearings on the state of the economy.

Wednesday, Feb. 2, brings the first big jobs reports for the month of January—from ADP and Challenger, Gray and Christmas—while the TD Ameritrade Institutional conference kicks off in San Diego. Earnings reports are due from Ameriprise, Genworth, Hartford and Symetra.

Thursday, Feb. 3, features a keynote speech by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the TD Ameritrade conference, the weekly first-time unemployment claims, and factory orders. Scheduled to report Q4 earnings is Fiserv. The Senate Budget Committee holds its second day of hearings on the U.S. economy in the morning, while the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship holds an organizational meeting and the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions meets on retirement issues in the afternoon.

Friday, Feb. 4, the markets will likely move on the January employment report, while the last full day of the TD Ameritrade conference is held. Calamos is due to report quarterly earnings.
