HighTower, an open-source, advisor-owned financial services company, announced Monday that Matthias Paul Kuhlmey, partner and managing director, has been named to head a new division, Group Investment Solutions (GIS). In his new position he will oversee the investment offerings committee, the investment consulting committee and the research offering committee.
The new division coordinates the functions of the three committees. Custodial and third-party platforms from investment offerings; asset allocation, product selection and investment solutions of investment consulting; and multiply-sourced research from research offerings are brought together in the new division to support advisors and portfolio managers, and to assist in development of portfolio strategies.
Kuhlmey's background includes international banking, as well as working with private clients and families both in the U.S. and abroad. At HighTower, he has specialized in strategic planning for wealth preservation, generational transfer and global asset allocation.
Prior to joining HighTower, he worked for the private wealth management office of UBS in New York; before that, he was at Bank Julius Baer, where he oversaw the New York-based domestic private banking team.
In a statement, Mike LaMena, HighTower's chief operating officer, said, "Matthias brings a depth of global capital markets experience and passion for the investment solutions space, as well as the practical experience of balancing a corporate position with his duties as a financial advisor. We are confident that his unique skills will enable us to quickly expand our capabilities even further."
