The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission announced Wednesday that it would release its findings on the causes of the financial crisis on Jan. 27 in Washington, D.C. Additional details will be announced as the date of the release approaches.

The report was initially expected to be presented to Congress and President Obama by Dec. 15 last year.

Members of the FCIC are unavailable for comment until the report is released.

The FCIC's examination of the crisis has been extensive. The Commission interviewed over 700 witnesses and held 19 days of public hearings in communities that were hit hard by the financial crisis, including New York and Washington, D.C.

The FCIC is made up of 10 private citizens, appointed by Congress on July 15, 2009. Phil Angelides, the commission chairman, and Bill Thomas, the vice chairman, were selected jointly by the House and Senate Majority and Minority Leadership, according to the Commission website.
