An agent asks: "Can I have "Senior Health Insurance Consultant" written on my business cards?"

CMS' current policy relating to agent titling is that agents cannot state that they are from Medicare or use the term "Medicare" in a misleading manner. For example, an agent cannot state that they are endorsed by Medicare or are calling on behalf of Medicare, nor that Medicare asked them to call or see the beneficiary. Agents cannot state that they are part of the Social Security Administration or the Department of Health and Human Services, or that they work with Health and Human Services.

You may also want to check with your state department of insurance. Your state may have specific rules on the use of titling and on the use of designations that may be confusing to a Medicare beneficiary. If you represent a carrier for a Medicare Advantage Plan (including Part D plans), you may also be subject to further governance on the use of titling and designations.
