Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, R, is appointing Ted Nickel to succeed Sean Dilweg as insurance commissioner.

Walker, who has taken over as governor from James Doyle, a Democrat, also has appointed Dan Schwartzer to be deputy commissioner.

Nickel has been an executive at Church Mutual Insurance Company, Merrill, Wis., and chairman of the Wisconsin Insurance Alliance, Madison. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Valparaiso University.

Schwartzer, the deputy commissioner, has owned an association management and government relations firm. He has been executive director of the Wisconsin Employee Benefit Advisors Association, Madison, and of the Wisconsin PPO Association, Madison.

Schwartzer holds a Wisconsin property, casualty, life, accident and health insurance license. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Cardinal Stritch University.
