Aetna Inc. has closed on a previously announced agreement to acquire Medicity Inc., a health information exchange technology company.
Medicity, Salt Lake City, Utah, "offers a broad range of products and services that enable health systems, hospitals, physician practices and health information exchanges to securely access and exchange health care information," according to Aetna, Hartford (NYSE:AET).
Aetna is paying about $500 million for Medicity, and it says Medicity will operate as a separate business within Aetna, under the direction of the current managers.
