Unum Group Corp. has succeeded at selling all of the $400 million in debt securities that it wanted to sell.

Unum, Chattanooga, Tenn. (NYSE:UNM), originally suggested it might issue just $300 million in debt securities, but positive market reaction helped it increase the total.

The securities are senior notes due in 2020 that will pay an interest rate of 5.625%.

Unum plans to use the proceeds to repay notes due March 2011 and for other corporate purposes.
