The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has approved a bill to provide new protections for people with long term care insurance, including a right to appeal rejected LTC claims.

The bill, HB 1251, would require LTC carriers to set up an internal review process for contested claims. If the internal review upholds the initial rejection, consumers could then appeal their dispute to an independent review organization approved by the state.

The bill, passed by the House 196-0, was referred to the state Senate Banking and Insurance Committee Mar. 9.
