Thrivent Financial for Lutherans reports that it and its members already have contributed $3 million to Haiti earthquake relief efforts.
Thrivent, Minneapolis, gave a $1 matching contribution for every $2 contributed by Thrivent members to 4 Lutheran relief agencies.
Thrivent agreed to match up to $2 million in member contributions, and the members now have given more than $2 million, the fraternal insurer says.
The groups receiving the contributions are helping to meet immediate needs in Haiti, and they also want to help the people in Haiti rebuild, Thrivent says.
Thrivent members can continue to make contributions through Thrivent until Feb. 28.
Thrivent also is offering to try to find ways to support local groups that are running Haiti earthquake recovery fundraisers.
In other Haiti relief effort news, American Community Mutual Insurance Company, Livonia, Mich., a medical insurer, says employees raised about $500 for the American Red Cross with an internal Roses for Recovery fundraising campaign.
Employees who gave to the Roses for Recovery campaign received a yellow paper rose.
