New Jersey's new governor, Chris Christie, has appointed a MetLife Inc. (NYSE:MET) executive to be commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.
Tom Considine, who had been vice president and government relations counsel at MetLife, New York, replaces Neil Jasey, who was named to the post by former Gov. Jon Corzine.
Christie is a Republican, and Corzine is a Democrat.
Considine was a founding member of a New Jersey Banking and Insurance Department advisory board.
He also has been a member of the boards of the Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; the Texas Association of Life and Health Insurers, Austin, Texas; the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations, Herndon, Va.; and the New Jersey Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association, Newark, N.J.
