The board of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has named Brad Hewitt president and chief executive officer.
Kurt Senske will become chairman of Thrivent, Minneapolis.
Hewitt and Senske are succeeding Bruce Nicholson, who will retire from the posts of chairman, president and CEO Feb. 1. Nicholson helped oversee the 2001 merger of Aid Association for Lutherans and Lutheran Brotherhood that created Thrivent, and the combined company is now strong enough that it has been able to pledge $1 million in direct donations and matching donations to Haiti earthquake relief efforts.
Hewitt, who has been the chief operating officer of Thrivent, first began working for the fraternal insurer in 2003. He is the chairman of the board of Concordia University, St. Paul, Minn., and is on the board of the Lutheran Community Foundation. He is also a trustee of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation.
Senske, the incoming chairman, has been the vice chair at Thrivent and the chairman of the governance committee. He also is the CEO of Lutheran Social Services of the South Inc., Austin, Texas.
