Healthcare reform isn't gaining many new followers, new Gallup poll results indicate. According to the survey, 49 percent say they would advise their member to vote against a bill while 44 percent say they would advise their member to vote in favor of a bill.

Although headway has been made for healthcare reform over the last month, these results indicate that not much has happened to sway already wary voters. Since the debate's highest supporter numbers were reported in October (51 percent), the majority opinion has begun to slip negatively.

Results of this change are evidenced by lower marks of support from all three major political parties: Republicans in favor of new healthcare legislation have dropped 12 points since October; Democrats, 6; and independents, 8.

In the general public, Republicans hold the strongest opposition with 86 percent advising their member of Congress to vote against it. Independents follow with 53 percent opposing and Democrats with 17 percent opposing a bill.

With the healthcare debate beginning in the Senate this week, updated results will be coming soon.
