Many individual consumers who have a choice would prefer to wait until Congress revamps the U.S. health finance system before buying coverage.
Analysts at eHealth Inc., Mountain View, Calif., the parent of eHealthInsurance.com, have published that conclusion in a summary of results from a December survey of 1,003 U.S. adults ages 18 and older.
About 68% of the participants said that, if they had no health insurance today, they would seek new coverage immediately, but 24% they would wait for a health bill to pass before buying new coverage.
Almost 30% of the participants said they would go without coverage if they could not get it through an employer or relative. Only 2% of all participants said they do not think they need coverage, but 15% said they could not afford to buy their own coverage, and 13% said they would want to wait for a health bill to pass.
Only 15% of the participants said they would prefer to get their health coverage from the government, and only 14% said they would expect government health coverage to cost more than $250 per month. About 29% said they would expect government coverage to cost less than $75 per month, or to be free.
