A health care quality group has come out with new Health Web Site accreditation rules and health privacy and security standards.

URAC, Washington, says the new health privacy and security standards emphasize the need for annual workforce training and require organizations that adopt the standards to tell consumers about material changes in privacy practices.

Accredited organizations also must assess the risk posed by use of portable electronic devices, such as USB drives and laptop computers.

Accredited organizations also must verify and disclose the credentials of the individuals who review their Web site health content.

URAC first developed the Health Web Site accreditation program in 2001.
