Despite past disappointments, carriers continue to predict that critical illness insurance will be one of the top worksite growth products.

Critical illness sales were 12% lower in 2007 than in 2006, and about 20% of worksite carriers surveyed say sales of the product have not grown as quickly as expected, according to Eastbridge Consulting Group Inc., Avon, Conn.

But carriers are continuing to predict that critical illness insurance will be one of the worksite sales industry's top 3 growth products over the next few years, Eastbridge says.

Carriers are expecting term life and short-term disability to be the worksite growth leaders at their own companies, but they expect limited-benefit medical plans and supplemental medical plans other than critical illness plans to be the top growth products for the industry as a whole, Eastbridge says.
