A Pennsylvania insurance company is introducing a short-term medical insurance product.

Highmark Inc., Pittsburgh, says the new ShortTermBlue policy can provide coverage for up to 180 days to consumers in central and western Pennsylvania.

The policy covers prescription drugs, primary care physician visits and emergency room services as well as hospitalization.

The product comes with deductible options of $250, $500 or $1,000.

The cost for an individual ages 30 to 34 with a $1,000 deductible would be about $85 per month.

For the same individual with a $250 deductible, the cost would be about $126 per month.

Highmark plans to sell the product through brokers as well as through its Web sites and walk-in centers.
