A leading actuarial group wants to test the performance of software packages that help insurers, employers and others predict medical claim totals.

The Society of Actuaries, Schaumburg, Ill., says it is looking for health predictive modeling software packages that it can include in a follow-up to a 2002 report on modeling claims for commercial health plan populations.

The SOA says it has selected Milliman USA, Seattle, to develop the update.

Milliman hopes to complete the study sometime this fall.
