The U.S. Department of Labor is developing programming for a 2-day National Summit on Retirement Savings that is scheduled to start March 1, 2006, in Washington.[@@]
Private-sector businesses and associations can contribute to efforts to set the summit agenda, officials say.
A federal law enacted in 1997 requires the Labor Department to organize the summit meetings to "increase public awareness of the value of personal savings for retirement; to identify barriers both workers and employers face in setting aside adequate funds for retirement; to facilitate the development of a broad-based, public education program to encourage personal savings; and to develop recommendations for action to advance these goals," officials say.
