Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts has agreed to extend and expand its relationship with American Healthways Inc.[@@]
Massachusetts Blue, Boston, will be putting American Healthways, Nashville, Tenn., in charge of diabetes management services for all members with diabetes for 2 years.
Before, American Healthways had a 3-year contract to manage care only for Massachusetts Blue diabetics at a high risk for developing complications.
American Healthways started managing Massachusetts Blue patients with congestive heart failure in 2001, and it started managing plan members with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease in 2004.
