Corporate presidents and vice presidents tend to assemble retirement portfolios that look more like sedans than like hot rods.[@@]
Researchers at Clark Inc., Barrington, Ill., recently analyzed the investment selections in 17,000 executives' retirement plans.
Only 1.2% of the executives' assets were in world funds, and only 1.5% of the assets were in specialty funds, according to the Clark researchers.
Executives put 26.3% of their assets in fixed-rate investment options, 24.9% in large-cap funds and 10.9% in small-cap funds.
Clark researchers note that only 5.1% of the executives' assets were in mid-cap funds, even though mid-cap funds are usually less volatile than large-cap funds.
