A rebounding economy and careful regulation helped improve the stability of U.S. life insurers, health insurers and managed care companies in 2004.[@@]
Only 5 life insurers, health insurers and health maintenance organizations failed last year, down from 7 in 2003, according to Weiss Ratings Inc., Jupiter, Fla.
None of the life and health carriers that failed had more than $1 billion in assets.
In the property-casualty market, the number of failures fell to 10, down from 21 in 2003.
