Teachers Insurance and Annuities Association-College Retirement Equities Fund, New York, has hired Mellon Financial Corp., Pittsburgh, to support its new institutional asset management business.[@@]

Mellon will handle back-office services, accounting, custody services and performance measurement for the TIAA-CREF Asset Management unit, Mellon says.

The projected value of the contract was not immediately available.
