NU Online News Service, Jan. 30, 2004, 1:21 p.m. EST – New York state insurance regulators say health plans seem to be paying claims more quickly.[@@]

The number of complaints about violations of the state's "prompt pay" law fell to 13,577 in 2003, down 31% from the total recorded when the law went into effect in 1998, regulators say.

New York requires health insurers and health maintenance organizations to pay clean claims within 45 days of receipt.
