NU Online News Service, Oct. 15, 2003, 6:05 p.m. EDT – The Ohio Senate is considering S.B. 136, a bill that would create a special health insurance pool for state residents who have serious health problems.
The Ohio Association of Health Underwriters, Columbus, helped write the bill, and Sen. Lynn Wachtmann, R-Napoleon, Ohio, introduced it.
Supporters estimate 11,000 Ohio residents could qualify to buy coverage from the pool.
Twenty-nine other states already have risk pool health insurance programs.
Creating a risk pool would help stabilize premiums in the group and individual health insurance markets, OAHU says.
