NU Online News Service, July 31, 2003, 3:18 p.m. EDT – Anthem Inc., Indianapolis, is reporting $177 million in net income for the second quarter on $4.1 billion in revenue, up from $106 million in net income on $2.8 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2002.

The recently completed acquisition of Trigon Healthcare Inc., Richmond, Va., helped bring about some of the increase in revenue and income.

The company ended the quarter providing or administering medical insurance for 12 million people, up from 8.3 million people a year earlier.

Anthem averaged $728 in health insurance revenue per insured member, up 4% from the average for the second quarter of 2002.
