NU Online News Service, July 10, 2003, 1:08 p.m. EDT – Delta Dental Plan of California, San Francisco, has set up a "Passport" program that will let members of its fee-for-service dental plans switch to a dental health maintenance organization each month, rather than forcing members to wait until annual open-enrollment periods to switch.
Members who choose the dental HMO coverage can switch back to fee-for-service plans each month.
The Passport program will be free for employers that choose one of California Delta's preferred-provider or "managed fee-for-service" dental plans. Employees then can choose between enrolling in the fee-for-service plan or a dental HMO, California Delta says.
The HMO has a network of 2,500 dentists, and the two fee-for-service plans have networks of 19,000 dentists and 10,000 dentists.
