NU Online News Service, May 7, 2003, 2:47 p.m. EDT – Independence Holding Company, Stamford, Conn., is reporting $4.4 million in net income for the first quarter on $42 million in revenue, up from $3.9 million in net income on $40 million in revenue for the first quarter of 2002.

Independence subsidiaries sell life insurance, health insurance and disability insurance. The company also sells stop-loss coverage for self-funded health plans, and it buys blocks of business from other insurers.
