NU Online News Service, July 31, 10:34 a.m. – The CIGNA Foundation, Philadelphia, has helped create a guide that gives women information about how to shop for health coverage.

The foundation, an offshoot of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, worked on the project with two Washington groups, the Jacobs Institute of Women's Health, the National Partnership for Women & Families.

Women often decide which plans their families should buy. But many women do not understand how their health plans work or how to take advantage of all of the plans' benefits, according to the groups that developed the guide.

The new guide, "The Health Plan Guide for Women," discusses topics such as use of health maintenance organizations, point-of-service plans, open-access plans and preferred provider organization plans.
