NU Online News Service, Oct. 31, 10:55 a.m. – The Florida Legislature is considering a proposal to prohibit health maintenance organizations from terminating provider contracts, except under specified circumstances.

House Bill 343, proposed by Rep. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, Fla., would also allow patients to drop out of their HMOs if HMOs terminate their health care practitioners' provider contracts. Patients who dropped out could then enroll in new health plans without penalty.
