The good news is that M&A activity is back with a vengeance. The bad news is that it's really more of a fire sale. When the federal government is slated to be the single largest buyer in the financial services space, things are definitely tough all over. We take a look back to happier times (or was it blissful ignorance of things to come?), and offer the number and value of financial services mergers and acquisitions from 2003 through 2007.
